Scratchman: The Display Font That Makes Campaigns Stand Out

Choosing the Right Font for a Seasonal Instagram Launch

I was halfway through designing the visuals for a client’s fall product launch when I hit a wall. The mockups looked flat, and the message—“Bold Flavors for Cool Nights”—was getting lost in the layout. I needed a font that could carry the energy of the campaign while staying clear and readable on mobile. That’s when I remembered Scratchman.

Scratchman isn’t just another display font. It’s got character—like a handwritten sign painted on a vintage storefront, but with the polish of a premium typeface. The texture is rough around the edges, but the structure is intentional. It gives off a vibe that’s both creative and confident, making it perfect for headlines, callouts, or anything that needs to grab attention in a fast-scrolling feed.

How Scratchman Elevates Digital Campaigns

Once I dropped Scratchman into the design, the whole thing came alive. The word “Fall” in the headline looked like it was scratched into a chalkboard, giving the post a tactile, handmade feel. It wasn’t just about style—it made the message more memorable. That’s the power of using the right display font: it doesn’t just say something, it says it with personality.

I used Scratchman across the campaign assets: Instagram story templates, YouTube thumbnails, Pinterest pins, and email banners. Each time, it helped anchor the message visually. Whether announcing a limited-time offer or teasing a new flavor lineup, the font gave the text a bold presence that stood out in crowded feeds.

Visual Hierarchy and Message Clarity

In digital marketing, first impressions are everything. A viewer might only glance at your post for a second before scrolling. Scratchman helped me build visual hierarchy without clutter. I used it for the main headline and paired it with a clean sans serif font for supporting text. This contrast made the message easy to scan and understand in a heartbeat.

For example, in a YouTube thumbnail, I used Scratchman for the text overlay: “New Season, New Flavors.” Beneath it, a smaller sans serif line read “Available Now.” The boldness of Scratchman drew the eye instantly, while the secondary text provided the call to action without competing.

Best Use Cases for Scratchman

From experience, Scratchman works best in short, impactful phrases. It’s not meant for body copy or long paragraphs. Think of it as your campaign’s voice—loud, clear, and expressive. It shines in:

I used it for a branded content series on Instagram and Pinterest, where each post featured a different flavor with a bold title in Scratchman. The result was a consistent, recognizable visual identity that helped users instantly associate the look with the brand.

Readability Tips for Mobile and Thumbnails

One thing I always test is how a font looks on mobile. Scratchman holds up well when scaled down, but I made sure to keep the text short and the spacing generous. Kerning adjustments helped maintain clarity in thumbnails and story covers where text sits over images or color gradients.

When using it on dark backgrounds, I added a subtle stroke or shadow to ensure contrast. For light backgrounds, I stuck with a solid fill. It’s also important to preview how the font looks in fast-scrolling environments like Instagram or Facebook feeds—Scratchman passes that test with flying colors.

Font Pairing Made Easy

Pairing Scratchman with a clean font is key to balancing its expressive style. I used it with a modern sans serif for most of the campaign, which created a nice contrast between bold and minimal. For a more editorial feel on Pinterest, I swapped in a serif font for secondary text, which gave the pins a refined edge without losing the campaign’s playful tone.

It also pairs well with script fonts for a layered, handcrafted look—perfect for quote graphics or event announcements. Just make sure the other fonts in your layout don’t compete for attention. Scratchman should be the star of the show.

Checking the Details Before Deployment

Before locking in the font for client use, I double-checked the included styles and alternates. Scratchman came with ligatures and a few stylistic sets that gave me flexibility in shaping the text exactly how I wanted. I also verified the file formats—OTF and TTF were both available, which worked across design platforms.

Licensing was another key point. Since the campaign included digital ads, branded templates, and social media assets, I made sure the font allowed for commercial use across those formats. Multilingual support was also covered, which mattered for the client’s international audience.

Final Touch for a Cohesive Brand Look

By the time the campaign launched, Scratchman had become a key part of the brand’s visual language. It wasn’t just a font—it was a design asset that helped unify the message across platforms. Whether it was a small thumbnail or a full-width Instagram post, the font made sure the campaign looked intentional, energetic, and unmistakably bold.
